About Charyl Durbin, PhD, LPC

I have been working with children and families in one capacity or another since 1978. I try to work in a creative and analytic manner to individualize therapy to help people solve problems. Helping others effectively while keeping a loving detachment requires working on my own balance. That involves keeping a balanced place in my own relationships, work, play and surroundings. Generally, I am a calm and happy person. I like spending time with family, in nature and enjoy making art. I also deal with a chronic disease and have my service dog, Domino, as my partner and she helps me with physical balance.

My Education and Experience

My therapeutic approach and intensive training is centered around, but not limited to,
Dialectic Behavior Therapy (DBT). DBT has a broad applicability and is an evidence
based approach geared to working with trauma, depression, grief and anxiety. DBT
focuses on emotion regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal skills and mindfulness.
Additional interventions include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), hypnotherapy and
mind body approaches, educational and experiential methods.
